Union Arms Company pistols produced by the Bacon Manufacturing Company
|
The Bacon Manufacturing Company produced slightly more than 3,000 of their second
model percussion pistols with the round barrels and fluted cylinders. Of this number,
over half were produced by Bacon and sold to other arms companies under such
engraved names as Hopkins & Allen, Western Arms Company, Union Arms Company,
Tomes, Melvain and Company, Fitch & Waldo, and B.J. Hart & Brothers. Of these, the
Fitch & Waldo; and the Tomes, Melvain & Company are the rarest with an estimated
quantity of each to be around 8 dozen. There are approximately 700 of the Union Arms.
Compare this Bacon Manufacturing Company-produced example bearing the Union
Arms Company name on the barrel. (Move your cursor over the top photo to see the
Union Arms Name.) The photo below shows two of the prominently displayed locations
for the serial number, on the front of the loading lever catch and on the inside of the
trigger guard.
